Holiday Party at the Barton's

John and Linda Barton hosted a holiday party at their home in Columbia, MO, on November 23, 2008, at 2 p.m. for the reunion planning team and for the new members of the planning team for the next reunion to celebrate the holidays, the success of the class reunion, and start thinking about our 65th birthday bash.  Attending were Jane Bellinghausen, Sue & Bill Fennewald, Gail & Larry Hartman, Jane & Norman Heim, Janet & Gary Heim, and Bob & Ann Wilkerson.  A White Elephant gift exchange was enjoyed after visiting over an abundant variety of finger foods.  Lots of fun was had by all.

'Reflection' Picture

in memory of

Richard Rutherford & Butch Brown

The dedication of this awesome framed collection was held at the Wellsville-Middletown R-I High School on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2008.  John Barton had this picture specially made and had it on display at the 44th anniversary reunion in August, 2008.  He has now donated it to the school.  Sue Fennewald delivered the speech at the Veteran's Day Remembrance Ceremony that John wrote in memory of Richard and Butch.  A plaque inscribed, 'Class of '64', was added to the frame.  It will be hung in the school hallway.  Two other 'Class of '64' members were present.  Gail Hartman and Cleve Holliday were there to assist with the unveiling of the picture during Sue's reading of the dedication speech.  The school had a very impressive program.

[The speech is below the picture.]

 Dedication Speech

As we began the planning for our class reunion, we spent a lot of time reminiscing about our days at R-1.  During the planning, our thoughts turned to the eight who wouldn't be able to attend because they were in a better place.  The first person we thought of was Richard Rutherford, taken from us at such a young age.  In thinking of Richard, it also triggered thoughts of Butch Brown from the class of '65.  The two were so different in personalities, Richard quiet and reserved and Butch very outgoing.  What the two had in common was much more important; love of country, sense of duty, honor, and sacrifice.  Every member of the class of '64 learned some of life's most important lessons from these two young men, making us better individuals and our nation stronger.  Besides those lessons on responsiblity, sense of duty, and self sacrifice for a greater cause, we all learned and it has been indelibly imprinted in all our minds "Freedom isn't Free".  In appreciation for their sacrifice and to celebrate their love of country and sense of duty, the class of '64 would like to dedicate this picture to their families and to the community in order that we can all remember their contribution.

  EXTRA, EXTRA

Another version of the 'questionable occasion' picture (of the four 'guys') has been unearthed.  See this picture in the picture gallery.  Art has no idea what the occasion is.  How about you other guys?

Planning Meeting at John's house on June 21
We had a third class reunion planning meeting, Saturday, June 21, at John Barton's house in Columbia.  John grilled hamburgers and we all enjoyed the delicious meal that he and his wife graciously provided.  It was fun and John has decided to do this once every month now!  (Okay, so I'm just kidding, but we do have LOTS of fun at these meetings!)  You really missed out if you were not there.  Unfortunately, no one took pictures this time.  Classmates at this meeting were:  John Barton, Sue Fennewald, Gail Hartman, Jane Heim, Dale Parrish and Bob Wilkerson.

Our second class reunion planning meeting, Saturday, April 12, was, also, at John's house.  We only had five at that meeting, but we did have one new face.  We had a GREAT time.  After much reminiscing and visiting, we got down to brass tacks and worked on the reunion plans.  Check out the pictures below.  If you haven't figured it out yet, those in the pictures at our first meeting at Sue's house were John Barton, Bob Wilkerson, Curtis Peery, Janet (Kraftzeck) Heim, Gail (Allison) Hartman and Phil Kemp (Sue, not pictured).
